Whitehaven was once a great trading port and has a rich history dating back to the 1600's The Mansion is ideally placed on the outskirts of town for exploring or travelling for work.

 

West Lakes Science Park is five minutes away as is West Cumberland Hospital.  A five minute walk and your on The England Coast Path, which follows the stunning coast line North and South. We are only 10 minutes from St Bees beach by car, which has a fantastic sandy beach and a local ice cream parlour. On clear days you can take in brilliant views of the Isle of Man.


The C2C cycle route starts just down the hill from us on Whitehaven Harbour, where you can also find great restaurants and bars with relaxing views across the marina.

 

The Western Lake District is also on our doorstep, our carpark looks over the Western fells of the Lake District. Ennerdale Water, Wastwater, Loweswater, Buttermere and Crummock are all within a 20 to 40 minute drive from us. You can drive North up the Solway coast to visit the historic port of Maryport or keep going to the start of Hadrian's wall. South you will, find Ravenglass with the famous L'aal Ratty narrow gauge steam railway that ambles up the Eskdale valley. Keep going and you'll pass Muncaster Castle which offers gardens, house tours and regular birds of prey flights.
